I have a stash of mud and clay masks in my beauty cupboard that I consider my – SOS – end of week skin care saviours. Mask’s containing the deep cleansing and detoxing properties of mud and clays seem exactly what’s needed to counter daily grime and pollution, but Ive found a new addition there’s a new tough guy cleanser in my skincare line up.
I discovered the Body Shop’s Himalayan Charcoal Purifying glow mask on a recent shopping trip and have been using it for a few weeks and have to say its rather unique as not only does it contain the usual combination of clays, anti-oxidants (usually in the form of green tea) but it also contains Morrocan charcoal which works as a super absorbent skin (sucker) drawing out all impurities and excess oil. Far surpassing the results of other deep cleansing masks that I usually reach for (Aesop parsley seed and clay or Glamglow’s “Youth Mud”).
The addition of powdered pumice and green tea give this mask an exfoliating action as you remove it also boasts a tingling action for the first few minutes when applied which really works to stimulate blood flow allowing for the products to work at a deeper level.
It contains aloe vera and tea tree oil so although this mask is what I consider a heavy duty cleanser it counter acts this with these soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.
I feel this mask is best suited for normal, combination, congested, greasy and spot prone skin. I wouldn’t recommend it for active acne, rosacea and for sensitive skin I would suggest trialling with a five minute application time rather than the recommended ten minutes.
I follow this mask with a hydrating night cream or over night moisture mask – perfection – my skin is clear you can see the effects immediately after use – and it really pep’s up the skin, leaving a soft, glowy finish and lit-from-within radiance that usually takes skilful makeup application to achieve.
What’s your favourite deep cleansing mask, have you tried the HIMALAYAN CHARCOAL PURIFYING GLOW MASK?
