How to make your lipstick last, no one likes to apply their lipstick only to have to re-apply an hour or so later and although there are numerous specific long-wear lipsticks available, here’s a trick to make your lipstick long-lasting even if it’s a traditional formula because getting the most from your favorite shade is a must.
Exfoliate – One of the most important and often forgotten steps, creating the perfect base by exfoliating any dead and flaky skin cells will help the pigment in your lip pencil or lipstick penetrate deeper thus lasting longer. A simple method is to combine sugar and honey and gently rub over the lips in circular motions alternatively Lush Lip Scrub also has impressive lip smoothing capabilities, once or twice a week is enough to keep your lips smooth and softened.
Moisturize – The ideal way to do this is at the start of your makeup. Apply a thin layer of your favourite balm over the lips, two personal faves are the Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom (It’s just divine – review here) or Dr PAWPAW Lip Balm, leave the balm on until you have completed your makeup then wipe off any excess, ready for the next step.
Prime – This step is optional, but if you haven’t tried lip primers and are a bit of a lipstick enthusiast then they are worth a mention as they really stop everything bleeding and blurring out, these mainly clear waxy pencils are used in light feathery motions just outside of where you will place your lip liner and act as an invisible barrier. One to try *Make Up For Ever’s Lip Line Perfector.
Line – If you want your lipstick to last longer you have to use a lip liner, full stop and It should be waterproof. I would recommend ditching any that aren’t. Choose a colour similar to your lipstick shade start at the beginning of the cupid’s bow on the upper lip and trace the outer part of your lips continue with the lower lips. Once the lips are lined turn the liner onto its side and fill them in. Current lip pencil favourite: Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat.
Apply – Apply one coat of lipstick directly from the tube (a brush for everyday use a brush is not essential) and blot with a tissue, then apply one more layer.
Set – With your mouth closed, dust a little face powder on your lips with a fluffy brush, it won’t make your lips dry or cakey as you are using such a tiny amount.
Done, amazing lips with colour that last’s. What lip products do you love, let me know?
